On July 11, 1995 Serb troops led by General Radko Mladic brutally overran the town of Srebrenica, Bosnia. The Muslim enclave had been under United Nations protection. But about 450 Dutch troops stood by helplessly as the Serbs rounded up the town’s men and boys. In a few days, about 8000 were executed, their bodies shovelled into unmarked graves. Forensic scientists using DNA evidence have since identified more than 2000 remains. Today another 465 coffins, draped in Muslim green, were laid to rest in a memorial service near the massacre site. The emotional ceremony was captured on video by APTN.
