PAUL JAY, SENIOR EDITOR, TRNN: Welcome to The Real News Network. I’m Paul Jay, coming to you today from Washington, night two of the Real News Webathon. As you know, we’re trying to reach $200,000 by the end of December 9. We hit $160,000 last night and thank everyone for their donations. If you want to donate in the course of the evening, you can either go to the donate button on our website, which is the fastest way to do it, or you can call 1-888-449-6772 and one of our colleagues will help you with a donation or let you know where you can send a check. Most importantly, if you want to ask a question of our upcoming panel, which is a panel on is the free Internet over–I should say the real title is “Is the free Internet dead?”–if you want to ask a question about this or make a comment, here’s what you do. You either send an email to questions (at) therealnews (dot) com or you call the following number: 1-888-816-8867. So we have one phone call about The Real News to kick things off, and then we’ll take a short break, and then we’ll return with our panel on Internet and democracy. [inaudible] from Ottawa is on the line. Are you there? Go ahead. Hello, [inaudible] from Ottawa. Okay, apparently there is no [inaudible] from Ottawa. Okay, I tell you what we’re going to do. I think we’re only–we’re over four or five minutes away from the 8:15 start of our panel, but let me tell you just a little bit of what the panel is. On our panel you will find Marc Rotenberg, who will be joining us. Marc is the executive director of Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington, DC. Also joining us, from India, is Dr. Rebecca Parsons. She’s ThoughtWorks’ chief technology officer. ThoughtWorks is a major, a very innovative, large software company based in Chicago. And joining us also–I believe he’s in Vancouver today–is Tim Bray. He was the former director of Web technologies at Microsystems, and he’s also one of the more innovative technologists, I think they call themselves, one of the more innovative technologists in Internet history, quite well known. If you look him up in Wikipedia, you’ll find out the innovations he’s responsible for. And we’re going to be talking about the Amazon takedown of WikiLeaks, PayPal’s and Visa and MasterCard’s turning off of WikiLeaks access to the international banking system. And a lot of people think, even, of all the things that were done to WikiLeaks, perhaps cutting them off from their DNS supplier, a place that controls their domain name, may be the bigger threat to the issue of an open Internet. So you can join us for this at 8:15 in just a few minutes. Now, we’re going to try to get our caller in again from [inaudible] from Ottawa. Are you there? No, the call’s not–is dropped. So, alright, we’re having phone-in problems. Okay, we’re going to take a very short break, and we’re going to return with our panel and the “Is the free Internet dead?” Please join us on The Real News Network in about three or four minutes.
